Title: Intern (Graduate Level)
Department: Exploration and Development
Location: Denver, CO
Time Period: Summer 2016
Whiting Petroleum is an independent exploration and production Company with an oil focused asset base. This internship position provides opportunities for students to experience practical applications of the energy industry with a focus on geosciences to supplement their classroom learning.
Undergraduate students, graduate students, and Ph.D. candidates currently enrolled in a Geological Sciences, or similar, degree program considered. Excellent written and verbal communication skills desired. Experience with geoscience software applications and databases is a plus.
A geoscience summer internship at Whiting for MSc and PhD candidates involves a subsurface project with a “beginning, middle, and end”. By that we mean there will be a coordinated project involving some combination of subsurface data (wireline logs, cores, and/or seismic) with an opportunity to present interim results to the appropriate Regional Geologic team, and final results to a broader spectrum from our Geoscience staff. Projects could range from Development to New Ventures, but in every case will have an assigned mentor/supervisor. Most projects will have an opportunity to interact with our in-house core and SEM lab and technical support staff as well. Whiting has the following Regions of operations: Northern Rockies, Central Rockies, Permian, and Gulf Coast/Mid-Continent.
